Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden came into existence when one of Australia’s most famous artists Brett Whiteley died in 1992. This, once derelict, area was transformed by his widow Wendy into the tranquil, lush, enchanted haven that it is today. She channelled her grief into beautifying this garden that, although hidden away, has expansive views of Sydney Harbour.
The lush garden hosts an abundance of native birds that make their homes in the giant fig trees. Plants and flowers make up the undergrowth. Adding charm to this garden are quirky antiquities like statues dotted throughout, a vintage scooter and rusty wheelbarrow.
Unlike all the other gardens under North Sydney Council, a permit is required and fees are payable hourly. For more info contact North Sydney Council.
